Scenario & Case-Study Mindset
What You’ll Likely See
- Unscored survey questions at the start or end — these do not count toward time or score.
- A large case study / scenario section (often first) with multiple independent questions tied to one scenario. Questions are independent (same scenario, different asks).
- Mixed question section (most of your exam): single-answer MCQs, multiple-answer MCQs, True/False, drag-and-drop, and occasional “click the right element” tasks on Azure portal visuals.
- A final case study may appear again near the end.
- Sometimes a hands-on lab appears (config actions). If labs are absent, total time can be around ~100 minutes instead of ~120.
Heads-up: Microsoft adjusts formats over time. Your best strategy is to be familiar with
all section types and question styles so nothing feels new on test day.
Navigation, Review, & Time Management
- You can mark questions for review. You’ll get a chance to review marked items at the end of a section.
- Once you complete a section and confirm, you may not be able to go back to it.
- Case studies are time-intensive to read. Most first-time takers are surprised by the length — plan for it.
- Don’t get stuck on a single tough item. Keep momentum and return during the section review.
Pro tip: Pace yourself. For a 100–120 minute exam, budget ~75–80% for mixed questions,
~20–25% for case studies. Use the review screen to harvest quick wins before time expires.
Be Exam-Ready
- Practice with scenario-first thinking (NFRs, risks, trade-offs) — especially for AZ-305.
- For AZ-104, ensure comfort with identity, compute, storage, networking, RBAC, governance.
- Use full-length practice exams to train pacing and review discipline.
